Edwin’s Week 6 Heroic Power Rankings
8th - PTP [+/-]
PTP had an incredible showing last week. Despite going 0-2, their matches against FEC and TAS were both dubbed “match of the season” by Twitch Chat viewers. I’m unsure if practice and training resulted in PTP’s showing today, or if PTP got lucky. I’d like to think it’s former, since all of our Heroic teams have looked exponentially better than they all did in Week 1.
Going forward, I’d love to see more of Lets do Vaynal’s progression in his new role, and I love seeing four/five-man play attempts from this squad. It shows that they’re still trusting each other, and that their cohesion hasn’t been broken by their record.
7th - TAS [+/-]
I know that behind the scenes, TAS hasn’t been able to practice as much as they’d like to, but it’s still incredible to see the gall on these boys in every match. Drafting aggressive picks like Yasuo ADC with a Lucian top shows that TAS wants to play how they want to play. Their showing against PTP resulted in one of the most hype matches of the season, but their “salty runback” the next game against SWO proved to be a bit more difficult.
Going into the final weeks, TAS has a very low chance of making it to playoffs, but one wrong move from any other team could give TAS the opportunity.
6th - SWO [-1]
I’m not lowering SWO’s placement because they did poorly. It’s mostly because other teams have been exceeding expectations. This last week, SWO had to play against our two grand finalists of Season 2, INT and TAS. SWO has been looking spicier with their new duo, Jovie and Cam, and time will tell us how high-value this roster move can be. That being said, the match against INT revealed a few weak points that other teams will be able to pick up on against SWO.
Moving into the final weeks, SWO should definitely look to fix their early game decision making and timing. There were a few times where, if certain players made moves seconds earlier, SWO could have come out on top.
5th - BBZ [-3]
Blue Bayou Zoo seems to be going through a downswing at the moment. Most casters have commented on the team not having the same identity as the first half, and some of complimented BBZ’s attempt to try new styles and identities. However, with playoffs around the corner, there’s no time to mess around.
Despite having probably the hardest week a team could ask for (FEC and YUBI), BBZ still has a reliable ADC in BBZ Red who has succeeded in topping damage charts, despite losing out in the games. Moving forward, BBZ needs to figure out what it is they’re good at, and start getting even better at it.
4th - INT [+/-]
This last week, INT had to play the sister teams, SWO and SPE, of which they went 1-1 respectively. INT recently was able to finalize their original squad from Season 2, and their cohesion was in question the past few weeks. However, during Week 5, we’re starting to see the team start to gel together again.
Right off the bat, INT got a little lucky against SWO when they blundered in the top side of the map, but a few mistakes by INT allowed SWO to have a few extra minutes of game time. A resource that’s very precious to our competitors. Finally, an incredibly close game played against SPE lost them out on a potential 2nd Seed spot, but their match this week against BBZ might be the opportunity they need.
3rd - SPE [+3]
SPE’s aggression allowed them a few opportunities in their matches against YUBI and INT to take over the game. The biggest improvement that we can talk about is SPE’s trust issues. During Week 2 and Week 3, SPE would go for plays that not everyone seemed prepared for, but we’re slowly starting to see this team iron that issue out.
Playing “reactive” seems to have a negative connotation to it, but overall playing this style can get you wins - it’ll just be a matter of getting better at it.
2nd - FEC [+1]
In FEC versus BBZ, this team performed like one of the best teams in Friend or Foe. Correct decision making and proper jungle tracking allowed FEC to shoot for minute advantages in the early game. However, their early game was tested against PTP - a team that started to have an upswing in their early game openings. Despite that, FEC was able to stay calm and collected while playing the late game as correctly as they could.
These matches prove that FEC can go for early advantages, and if it doesn’t work out, they’re still good enough to find late game opportunities to save the game.
1st - YUBI [+/-]
I, OnceWeak, solemnly swear to take 1 shot of hard alcohol and wash it down with some beer for every hook Brain Tsang misses. YUBI now holds the record for “Longest Win Streak” in the regular split with 10 as that title previously belonged to Season 1 Champions, Team Atlas when the record was held at 8.
I mean honestly, it’s kind of hard to praise a team for 5 weeks straight without sounding like a broken record.
Yeah YUBI’s dope.
